The abundance of connected devices is fuelling a rise in the consumption of digital content and home networking. In turn, this is driving demand for faster broadband speeds and advances in networking technology to improve consumer experiences and create new revenue stream opportunities. Consumer electronics manufacturers are rapidly adopting the networked movement, integrating IP connectivity into devices as standard, allowing consumers to stream online content through multiple devices in the home.
Siemens' revenue growth continues in first quarter of fiscal 2012
In the first quarter of its new fiscal year 2012, Siemens achieved increased revenue and laid the cornerstone for future growth, despite the difficult economic environment. Thanks to a strong order backlog, revenue for the first quarter rose two percent compared to the same period a year earlier, while new orders declined five percent year-over-year.
Connected TV to Dominate Global TV Shipments by 2015
With forecasts exceeding 80% of units shipped by 2015, connected TVs are expected to lead the way in global TV shipments escalating from 27% in 2011, according to new research from Futuresource Consulting. On a regional level, Japan leads the way in the adoption of connected TVs, with 59% of shipments in 2011 integrating IP connectivity as standard.
Verizon and Motorola announce new Droids at CES 2012
From the 2012 International Consumer Electronics Show (CES), Verizon Wireless and Motorola Mobility, announced an expansion of the Droid RAZR family. In coming weeks, customers will see the Droid RAZR by Motorola in Purple and the Droid RAZR MAXX by Motorola. Both new Droids are powered by America's fastest, most reliable 4G network and build upon the successful Droid RAZR by Motorola.
China Telecom starts business in Europe, UK
China Telecom is to launch as an MVNO in the UK, targeting Chinese residents and visitors to the country. The firm will launch on UK market-leader Everything Everywhere’s network beginning this quarter, marking the first time a Chinese operator has launched MVNO services outside China. Financial terms were not disclosed.
