Mitsubishi i MiEV: sports air car with removable transparent top
Mitsubishi is bringing us a nice surprise at the Geneva Motor Show that will take place in March. We are talking about the new Mitsubishi sports car, which runs with electricity and has a removable transparent top.
Firstly, you have to know that an i MiEV is a zero-emissions vehicle that helps you to save money. It depends of the cost of electricity, but the cost it’s about one third that of a gasoline vehicle. It is quiet and has a strong acceleration. The secret is a high energy density lithium-ion battery system and a highly efficient motor, which replace the conventional engine. The main advantage is that it allows for a four wheel drive system, without need of complex mechanical components, like transmission or differential gears. The installation of the batteries under the floor will make a stable driving dynamic for the new i MiEV Sport Air Concept. You may charge it at home, at a household charger or even at a speed charging system.
The idea of an electric vehicle technology is a preoccupation for Mitsubishi since 1971. According to the “Drive@earth” Mitsubishi’s commitment, the Japanese company is taking serious its responsibility to create “vehicles that deliver both driving enjoyment and environmental responsibility. Vehicles that can exist in total harmony with people, society and the Earth”. The new Mitsubishi i MiEV sports car proves that they respect their commitment and even more: they are bringing us a cool, modern car, providing a removable glass roof.
Until now, we have few details. It only seems to bring more performance than the i MiEV Sport Concept announced in 2007. That one wanted to be a futuristic concept car, weighing 970 kg, with aluminum chassis, an electric motor for each front wheel and a single electric motor to power the rear wheels.
According to some opinions, this car will be the world’s new “pocket-rocket” that Mitsubishi hopes will bring a lot of success for the Japanese Company.
