Motorola Milestone – what to expect
Motorola Milestone is the European version of the company's second Android smartphone - DROID, which was recently launched in the US by the local provider Verizon. The news about this handset coming to our continent has made us really happy as it is one of the first from series of powerful devices, which will try to bring back Motorola's position on the global market.
We haven't really tested the Milestone yet, but we still offer you this short review pointing out some of the highlights in the specs sheet of the phone.
First, we have to stress the fact this is an Android device, using the latest version of the OS - 2.0 also known as Eclair. It offers a lot of improvements over the previous versions, which will surprise even users of older Google-phones. Some of these are native Microsoft Exchange support, integration of Facebook, synchronization of Facebook friends with your contacts, better browser functionality, superfast uploads to YouTube thanks to a new widget, Car Home application, displaying big and bright icons for features used while driving and much more.
Except for a great software however, Motorola Milestone offers astonishing hardware characteristics. It comes with full QWERTY keyboard, which is described by the people who already used it as one of the best on the market. Even closer to perfection is Milestone's display! The new MOTO has large 3.7" capacitive touchscreen with 480x854 pixel, multi-touch support, accelerometer, proximity sensor and 16 M colours! The displayed picture promises to be bright and vivid, while the huge size of the screen allows you to enjoy all kinds of multimedia even better. And talking about multimedia, Milestone disposes of 5 MP camera with dual-LED flash, image stabilization, autofocus and video capture in 720x480 pixels at 24 fps. The MP3 player could be used with your favourite standard headphones, as there's even a 3.5 mm audio jack, complementing the A2DP profile for wireless listening.
For all that multimedia the users rely on the microSD slot for up to 32 GB memory cards, while 8 GB is already in the package.
Regarding the connectivity Motorola Milestone once again covers all bases. The smartphone works in GSM and 3G networks, supporting HSPA, but there's also Wi-Fi module for free internet access if there's a hot-spot nearby. Milestone is a proud owner of the powerful ARM Cortex A8 550 MHz processor, which promises ultrafast work within the menu and applications.
Some other nice features are GPS with A-GPS support, digital compass, stereo speakers, Bluetooth, e-mail and a whole bunch of additional applications, accessable via the Android market. So, are you thrilled already about the new MOTO Milestone? We are!
