HTC HD2 – the hi-tech peak

HTC HD2 – the hi-tech peak

The very latest smartphone in HTC's portfolio HD2 is easily the most interesting handset we've seen in months. It amazed us with its design, with its specifications and with the way it works - just perfect! Currently HD2 is available in Europe for about EUR 550 - 600, but before consider buying it, take a look at our exclusive test of the product...

First of all, you should know that HTC HD2 comes with a lot of great features, which will make you go "WOW!" when just hearing of them. This is the very first Widnows Mobile smartphone with capacitive touchscreen, which however is not just another big display. HD2 has an enormous 4.3" screen, which reacts really easy and everything works fluent. For the flawless works the smartphone also counts on the powerful 1GHz Snapdragon processor of Qualcomm, which is currently the peak in the mobile phone world. Even though with such advanced hardware features, HD2 is not on the bulky side - not at all! The handset is large, but it lays perfectly in the hand, as it is only 11 mm thin. Anyways, if you don't have big pockets, better don't think about taking it with you.

One of the best features is the internet browsing, which is more convenient than ever. Except for the great display, for better internet experience you have fast speeds via the 3.5G standard HSPA or via Wi-Fi, when there's available hotspot. A very interesting option is to turn your HD2 into Wi-Fi router, which means you could share the mobile internet of the operator's network with your laptop for example.
Except for the traditional for all Windows Mobile devices Internet Explorer, the new HTC HD2 also disposes of Opera. My personal opinion is that the latter one is much better, it's more user friendly and feels great. Multitouch is also on board - yes, you probably know about this technology from iPhone, but it is even more advanced here, than after zooming with a finger move, the text automatically regulates its size depending on the left space.

Other entertainment features are for example the 5 MP camera with its dual-LED flash, which is usable even in dark conditions. It supports touch-focus, which means you could take images and position the focus in the frame with just one touch.
Moreover HD2 has MP3 player and FM radio, which you should enjoy via headphones using the 3.5 mm jack. The laudspeaker of the handset is not really the best, but it's good. Except for enjoying your favourite music, HD2 is also perfect for watching moves or music clips. Its display is just craving for some videos, while the video player supports a lot of formats.

Entertainment however is not the only purpose of HTC HD2. It's also good for business as it's not only equipped with various ways for communication, but with a lot of software. Office Mobile, Outlook, Adobe PDF viewer and some other programs are just a part of all the good stuff you'll find on board. If you need more, there's the Windows Marketplace, which gives you access to thousands of applications in the form of an online shop. Facebook and trial version of Shazam are two of the apps I've immediately downloaded for free. The social network Facebook is actually integrated in the contacts, so you won't miss a move of your friends.

All and all HTC HD2 is one of the most powerful smartphones on the market, aimed at those multimedia fans, who can't leave their MP3s and movies at home, but want to take them and enjoy them wherever they go. HD2 is also a great business tool with its advanced features for editing of documents and communication. If you are really into hi-tech gadgets and want to have the best of the best on the market - go for it!
