Optical Familiarization Day with Teleprecision-MTS

by Elena Pacea

Teleprecision-MTS S.R.L. dedicated the day of November, the 18th to a half day seminar about optical communication.

We all gathered at the Ramada Hotel and Suites Bucharest North for the “Optical Familiarisation Day”. The presentation, hosted by specialists from Fujikura Europe and AFL-Noyes was completed by a workshop so each guest could test the equipmnets.

Stephen Rackstraw, Specialty Market Business Development & Technical Support Manager Fujikura Europe started the conference. All eyes were on him as he described us the fusion splicers and the accessories. There’s a wide range of options available, but the Fujikura FSM-60S is the main splicer the company promotes. It is a tough, compact and reliable equipment. The word tough means shock, drop, dust, rain resistant. Just imagine an engeneer who is not quite skilled. He drops his equipment, he forgets outside in the rain.

The equipment can pass a real life testing with no scratches on the screen. It is also reliable featuring the Core alignment and it automatically recognises the “PAS” technology. In terms of fast, there’s no doubt that the Fujikura 60S is a high-performance equipment. It has a new circuit design and less consumption. We are talking about 136W x 161 D x 143 H (mm) and 2.3 kg with the AC adapter included. It features a 1 inch TFT LCD. The Fujikura S60 A is an equipment made for standard fibre but other options are available. It features a carrying case with detachable work table and USB support. In terms of innovation, we have to mention this possibility to connect your splicer to your PC or laptop. If something goes wrong with your splicer you can put the data on your PC and send it to a service for an advice. The FSM 18S is suitable for single fibre splicing. It requires simple operation steps. In the range of the products he also mentioned the FSM 18R and the FSM 60R. Then Grant Ogilvie continued with FTTX solutions, Fujikura Europe supplies a wide range of products.

The SpliceMate FSM 11S/R has the world’s smallest size, a light weight and it features a table work. With the FID 25R and 26R Fibre Identifier you have a high senzitive performance and splicing toolkits. After a short coffee break, the conference continued. Nick Cole, European Sales Engineer AFL Telecommunications – Noyes Test & Inspection presented the company’s equipments that optimize the performance of FO networks and ensure the provision of high quality services. Noyes OFL 250 OTDR model features Optical Power Meter (OPM), Laser Source (OLS) and Visual Fault Locator (VFL). It is very simple to use, features a 3-5 inch LCD and mini USB port. It also features a software compatible with Windows in orther to allow the visualisation of the tests made. The Noyes OFL 280 OTDR is dedicated to single mode fibres. It also allows you to transfer the data on your PC for extra analysis.

The range of products also includes the Noyes VFS2 device. It can show any scratch so you could optimize the quality of the fibre. These catchy presentations of the products were continued with a workshop. All the information was put into practice.

We invite you to do the same thing and test these products so you could be in the spirit of the optical familiarisation day.
