Motorola BACKFLIP was rumoured a long time ago, but until now we didn't know anything about its specifications and the leaked images were so unclear that it was hard to even understand how the rotation functions. Now the smartphone is official and we have all of its specs for you, so read further to get all the information you need about this strange device.

The new BACKFLIP is definitely an example for how wild the imagination of the american engineers cloud be. The design is extremely unfamiliar and unique, so applause for that, but is it gonna be convenient to use? Well, let's wait until we have it in our office for a real test.

So, if you've already understood where the name of BACKFLIP comes from, it's time for some specifications details. First comes the touchscreen, which is 3.1" large with 256k colours and has 320x480 pixel of resolution. Than we have Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and GPS modules, as well as 3.5 mm jack for standard headsets and microSD slot for up to 32 GB memory cards. There's of course a good camera built-in, which takes images with 5 MP of resolution, supported by autofocus and LED flash.

Without surprise the BACKFLIP runs the Android OS, but not the latest 2.1, not even the 2.0, but the 1.5 version. Motorola however informs that the users will be able to upgrade to 2.x. The handset uses the familiar from DEXT MOTOBLUR user interface, which offers full Facebook integration and all Google services are available - Gmail, Google Maps, Google Talk, YouTube and others.

Motorola BACKFLIP works in GSM/EDGE and 3G networks with HSDPA support with download speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps. The smartphone is a bit bulkier measuring 53x108х15.3 mm and weighing 133 grams, but who'll think about this when having such a strange phone in their hands!

Motorola gave us a lot of hope by saying BACKFLIP will be available in several continents - North and Latin America, Europe and Asia. We expect the handset to hit the market in Q1 of the year, so no more than 2 months away. More information about the exact countries it will be available however and price details expect soon!
