Google Voice comes to iPhone
A few months ago, Google and Apple had a little fight. Google launched Google Voice last year, in March. The service provides a phone number and inbound calls to this number are forwarded to other phone numbers of the subscriber. But on July, 27 Apple rejected this application. The company stated that the reason for the rejection was that this application duplicates certain iPhone functions and features. One argument against allowing the Google Voice app on the iPhone was the fact that they were concerned that it replaces the iPhone user interface with its own.
But Google continued to follow up on its vow to bring Google Voice to the iPhone. So they launched a new Google Voice mobile web app for iPhone OS 3.0 and higher and Palm Web OS devices, harnessing the power of HTML5, a new web technology that makes it possible to run faster, richer web-based applications right in the browser.
We don’t know what Apple thinks about this. Google sais that the decision to improve the mobile Web version of Google Voice for the iPhone — and for any mobile Web browser that understands HTML5 — is not meant to “irritate” Apple. All they want is to satisfy their customers. Of course, we cannot say that they are lying about this. However, they also want to make it possible for the iPhone users to use this application. There are millions of iPhone users in the world and this means a lot of benefits for Google.
