Romanians spent 212 million euros on TV's last year

In 2009, Romanians spent 212 million euros on LCD and plasma TVs, according to a report by GFk Romania.

Nearly 60 million euros were spent on such devices on the last two months on 2009, almost as many as in the first six months of the year, as a result of the price cuts and holiday purchases, the report shows.

Altogether, in 2009 Romanians spent 212 million euros on TV sets, out of which 32.6 million euros came from CRT TVs sales, and a whopping 179.8 million euros from sales of latest generation TVs, according to GfK.

LG Romania, one of the biggest players on the market, estimates 500.000 TVs were bought in Romania in 2009.

According to GFk, out of the half million TVs, 283,000 were CRT TVs, and 313,000 - LCD and plasma TV.

Still, last year's sales were lower than in precedent years: "Compared with December 2008, audio and TV sales went down 30%. Still, for these products - plasma and LCD TVs, audio and home cinema systems and portable media players - a comparison with November 2009 shows that sales almost doubled in December 2009" GfK officials said.
