LG GD880 Mini – the clash of the sophisticated design with hi-end features
A few weeks ago LG announced GD880 also known as the Mini - extremely compact and unbelievably stylish phone, impressive with its clear lines and classy look. As opposed to all expectations, this tiny hi-tech jewel is not only beautiful, but it has an excellent functionality as well.
Last week we had the opportunity to get a test unit of GD880 in our office and here we are now with a quick review of the product. But, please, notice that this unit was not a final version, so we could mainly talk about the looks and some of the main features.
The small handset weighs only 99 grams and has 10.6 mm profile, which makes it one of the most compact phones with touchscreen on the market up till now. The device's case hasn't got anything unnecessary and as said above, it look really stylish and simply made. The edges are clearly formed and there are no curves or strange elements on it. The metal parts of the case complement in a very good way the classic black colour. So, with such a superior design I wonder why the GD880 Mini was not announced as part of the really sophisticated Black Label Series of phones?
It is interesting, that the microUSB port and the microSD slot are covered by metal slide covers, which protect them from dust and there are no ugly holes on the phone's case. On the front panel we see the earpiece, the video call camera and the sensors for the ambient light and proximity one, which turns the display off when you talk on the phone, so there's no chance for you to press something by accident. On the left side are placed the volume controls, while on the right side are the microSD card slot and the camera button. On the upper side are the 3.5 mm audio jack, the turn off/on button and the microUSB port. The back of the GD880 Mini features only the 5 MP camera, which hasn't got any flash, but comes with autofocus, geotags, face detection and image stabilization.
It's amazing, but the phone is really just with a few centimeters bigger than a credit card. The small size however makes it fit in your hand really well and it's a pleasure to work with the Mini. Such a style of course shouldn't be dependent on the time and the scratches the phones' displays get by the everyday use. So, GD880's screen comes with a glass, protected against such unpleasant conditions. And actually we tested the strength of the display with a 3.5 mm jack of its headphones - there was no "scars" at all!
Currently we have to limit our test to the outlook because, as I already explained, our test unit was not with the final software installed and we can not make decisions based on it. In general, this phone is one of the most beautiful and stylish, which will be launched in 2010. We really think it is the perfect hi-tech accessory of both - business ladies and gentlemen, but it features so many multimedia extras, that it could easily be called universal device even for young people. Soon, when we have the opportunity to test the final unit, we'll continue our test with the rest of the phone's specifications, so stay tunned!
