AL: New government structure, Pollo gets Telecommunications
President Bamir Topi has decreed the renaming of two ministries, as proposed by Premier Berisha. According to the decree published in the official website of the President’s Office, Sokol Olldashi is going to be the Minister of Transport and Public Affairs while Genc Pollo is going to be the Minister of Innovation, Information Technology and Telecommunication.
Telecommunication appears to be the most dynamic sector for the moment. According to government reports, 34, 4 % is the economic growth of the past trimester in the telecommunication sector compared to the corresponding period of 2009. Pollo has taken over this sector at a time when the 4th mobile operator is about to join the market. It was supposed to be operative since last October but it couldn’t due to some technical problems. The mobile telephony market has over 4 million subscribers, about 1.2 million more than in 2008. The landline telephony market stands at 363 thousand subscribers and a very low penetration rate, only 11.2%. Albania also has about 60 thousand mobile internet users.
