The Android OS is getting more and more popular. Now we have already plenty of models we can choose from. However, always comes up the question: which one is a better choice. So here is one short comparison of two of the most popular Android devices at the moment: HTC Desire and Motorola Milestone.

The outlook

Desire and Milestone very equal in sizes which seems strange because of the construction - you know that the Motorola device has a physical QWERTY keyboard and the HTC one hasn't, but it is true they has almost the same physical parameters. True, Motorola Milestone is 2mm thicker than Desire but I can assure you it is very hard to tell when the phone is in your hand. Both handsets are very well done, with precision in every detail and high quality materials.

Honestly, both devices seem perfect. Though, we can say that Milestone will suit more to men and women will prefer the compact Desire. So, the outlook is quite equalized. However, Milestone definitely receives a bonus point for having the physical QWERTY keyboard. Writing is easy and easily than with the virtual keyboard Desire has, for sure.

The next important thing in these models - touchscreen. Both Desire and Milestone are equipped with 3.7" capacitive touchscreens, 16M colors, multitouch and almost equal in resolution - 480х800 pixels (480х854 for Milestone). And here comes the difference - Desire has AMOLED screen with pinch-to-zoom capability - vivid and bright colors for an experience far more real than Milestone. No doubt, a real fact. Once touch an AMOLED and you'll never go back to the common TFT.

Another advantage of HTC Desire is the last version of Sense. The interface has new extras like Friend Stream and in any way is far more attractive. Motorola did not include MOTOBLUR in Milestone, which definitely is an oversight.

Functionality

The entertainment is a great part of nowadays smartphones so here what out two rivals can offer. The cameras both are 5 MP but the pictures are not of the highest quality we've seen. Still you have to remember that this is not cameraphones, so the results are good enough. The pictures made with Milestone has very good colors and what the advantage here is - Milestone has a hardware button for making photos. Shooting with the sensor screen button desire has always makes you flick your wrist and most of the times the picture comes blur. It is a matter of habit but anyway - not so comfortable. You can shoot also using the optical trackball, no autofocus in this case.

Speaking of music, theres nothing special to say. Music players are good enough, Desire one is combined with the Sense interface and more convenient, Milestone has the common Android OS player. However, the sound on speakers is far better with Motorola Milestone - it is stereo and you can tell from a long way off.

A little bit of hardware

For fans you will find all the specifications of Motorola Milestone and HTC Desire on our site, so you can compare in details. Both models show an excellent performance. However, Desire's CPU Processing Speed at 1GHz is obvious and if you work at a time with both handsets you will notice a little slowdown when you flip the screens with Milestone. But its CPU is at 600 MHz, so the difference seems logical.

HTC has also twice as much RAM - 576 МВ, 256 МВ for Milestone.

The connectors - 3.5 mm stereo audio jack and Standard micro-USB are the same in both smartphones. The connectivity, Internet and navigation capabilities also - Bluetooth and Wi-Fi, HSPA, GPS with A-GPS. The batteries are Li-Ion 1400 mAh that supports up to 6,5 hours talk time.

Software?

The pre-install applications are several but this what Adnroid market is for. More than 50 000 applications, 60 % of them totally free. You can find some very interesting stuff also in our new column Apps here at www.news-mobile.eu. Anyway, both smartphones come with QuickOffice, Facebook and Twitter, Google package (Gmail, YouTube, etc.)
