They hit the 5 billionth mark and continue to grow. Now the World market share of GSM subscriptions, including WCDMA-HSPA, stands at almost 90% of all mobile technologies. In Asia numbers are really big - China has already passed 700 million subscriptions, 500 million passed India. All of this is the official data from the latest GSA GSM/3G Market Update Report.

The APAC region has passed the 2 billion GSM (including WCDMA-HSPA)subscriptions milestone and for Central and Latin America and the Caribbean region the numbers are over 500 million subscriptions.

The networks are evolving, mobile operators deploy the latest technologies like WCDMA, HSPA-HSPA+ and LTE. There is still availability of spectrum for mobile services and new services up to come in the near future. Also a great trend in the telecommunication sector is the care for the nature. Finally, the giants realized that we share the same eco-system.

So, mobile technologies continue to grow and evolve and may be soon we gonna welcom the 6 billionth subscriber which will mean that Earth is totally mobile.
