GLOBUL appeals the decision of the Commision on protection of competition

The Bulgarian telecom operator GLOBUL announced it will appeal the decision of the Commission on Protection of Competition (CPC) to reject the operator's complaint demanding the ban of the misleading advertisement which presents the BTC's 3G coverage as the best one in Bulgaria.

The BTC's advertisement on the coverage of their 3G network contradicts to the fair commercial practices and misleads consumers. Moreover, the operator presumes to speculate even with data from an independent survey on the 3G network ordered by the three Bulgarian mobile operators. The results from the survey are applicable for technical purposes only but not to be used otherwise.

According to independent data sources, the BTC's 3G network performance could not be considered as the best one in Sofia, neither in the main cities, resorts and roads or in the country as a whole. Another important fact is that the speed of opening Web pages in the 3G network of BTC (the Internet browsing speed) is up to 20% lower than the speed in the other operators' networks.

It is also quite amazing that BTC stated the competitive advantage of its 3G network coverage without taking into account the fact it is due to the use of primarily the 900MHz band. To this day, barely 30% of all handsets offered in the trade network and even lower percentage of all purchased 3G phones can operate in that frequency range.

Quoting CRC's data on the values of the 3G coverage is yet another biased argument, as the operator's network coverage values declared before the Communications Regulation Commission (CRC) were measured neither by state authorities, nor by independent experts.
