Garmin nüvi 1490T - premium GPS navigation
GPS navigation is getting more and more popular and today we could hardly find even a handset without such a module integrated. Even the best touchscreen phone though is not able to replace the conventional GPS device, which a lot of people use in their cars, motorcycles or while walking on foot.
What is undeniably good about Garmin is the rich portfolio of the company, represented by all kinds of GPS navigators. One of the latest additions to Garmin's catalogue is the nüvi 1490T device – an automotive GPS system, offering brilliant display, Turn-by-Turn navigation, handsfree calling, and so much more.
The Garmin nüvi 1490T is priced at $499.99 and this automatically puts it in the higher class, where you get all the functionality you may want from such a device.
First of all, there is the display, which is touch-sensitive and big, really big – with 5” diagonal. Such a size means you could easily control it with your fingers and the usage won't distract you from the driving. The 5” screen with WQVGA resolution of 480x272 pixel means also better view of the maps and greater perspective when navigating through some route. Now you'll be able to see what is coming next and what is to be expected after the next corner.
Except for great graphics, the nüvi 1490T will provide you with some fresh and undoubtely useful information about the traffic. All these tips and alerts about which street is clean at the moment are available totally free from NAVTEQ Traffic, but for selected areas only and I suggest to check first if your country and city is actually included in the list.
Another nice feature of the ultrathin device is the integrated Bluetooth module, which allows you to receive and make calls without need of picking up your phone.
The nüvi 1490T comes with detailed City Navigator NT street maps, about 6 million points of interest (POI), and 2D or 3D map views. What's good also for you, when taking a walk, is the pedestrian navigation in form of optional CityXplorer maps. The last one you could download directly through your nüvi and use for selected tourist destinations in Europe for example. It will cost you however between $9.99 - $14.99, depending on the choosen city.
